Le collectif MAKILA propose une expérience inédite en ralliant des jeunes d’une communauté à Vancouver et des jeunes de l’arrondissement Montréal-Nord, qui se répondront par la vidéo en alternant d’un océan à l’autre. L’œuvre sera révélée aux participants et au public simultanément à Vancouver et à Montréal par la transmission vidéo en direct au cours d’une soirée festive de lancement avec musique éclatéeaux accents panaméricains.

MAKILA.TV presents an open video experience

October 11, 2009, at UQAM’s Agora, 175 President Kennedy / Free admission!

On October 11, participants from Montreal and across Canada will convene online and in person at the UQAM Agora to celebrate a unique cinematic co-creation. A short film “exquisite corpse” will be unveiled after a month-long collaborative creative process connecting youth from Montreal Nord and film-makers across Canada.  The screening is part of Festival Nouveau Cinema and will be followed by DJs and visuals powered by Makila.tv. A live video feed and interactive web-portals will enable Montreal participants and observers to connect and party with film-makers across Canada.

Editing in Short / guest: Jason Rodi (Moment Factory)

I wanted to share some notes about the gathering on Thursday the 4th of December with Jason Rodi, founder, creator and owner of MOMENT FACTORY, about the challenges of editing short-format video today. I’ll do it in English (rather than Spanglish) first because it’s a bit easier for me, but second for easier sharing out of our inner circle.

I wanted to hand out a summary or playlist before the session with the films and some of the key themes and ideas I wanted to bring to the table, but as I sat to do that, daycare called, my daughter has an ear infection and i had to run around town to find a clinic to get here an anti-biotic and see her reaction. Thanks to Lissy, Dina and Sara for their support by the way! So, I made it to the gathering but no summary whatsoever.

My goal was to serve as a counter-part, an “anti-introduction”, to the ground breaking VJ-inspired style and approach of Moment’s ongoing work. For that, I selected 3 examples:…
